Dr. Maha Halalsheh, Water, Energy and Environment center, The University of Jordan

Maha Halalsheh holds a PhD in environmental engineering from Wageningen University and Research Center since 2002. She is currently assigned as associate researcher at the University of Jordan. Her main interest lies in the field of IWRM as adaptation measure to climate change. Her main domain is wastewater treatment. She has more than 15 years’ experience in coordinating different projects and conducting studies. In addition, she provided many consultations to different international and local organizations. She represents the university in many governmental committees and is an active member at the Jordan Engineers Association chairing water and environment committee and serving as an elected member of the central council of the association. She also worked as wastewater treatment expert at the GIZ between 2015-2017 and conducted two main studies on decentralized sanitation management as adaptation measure to climate change and on industrial wastewater management. She is also managing the office of the National Implementation Committee for the of Integrated Wastewater Management and participated in the development of the national action plan for the decentralized wastewater management policy of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation published on 2016. She has 30 scientific publications in addition to a book and two documentary scripts. She was/ and still conducting training at regional level and is currently involved with the Arab Countries Water Utilities Association in developing training material in addition to conduct training for professionals in Jordan, Egypt and Lebanon. Additionally, she coordinated the IWRM management master’s program that was oriented to train professionals from all over the world on integrated water resources management principles. The program was organized jointly between the University of Jordan and Cologne University of Applied Sciences. Recently, she conducted a series of 6 training workshops for the S4M program/ GIZ to increase community awareness about decentralized sanitation.
